This essay is about eating and having fun in Delray Beach.
If you’re a new reader, today I’m taking a sidetrack from my normal real estate missives where I share data and geek-out on charts and graphs. Today, I want to shed light on why we live here.
Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is food. After all, there are about 74 restaurants in downtown Delray Beach from my most recent walking tour back in January. And guess what… that number will grow this year. And next year. And the year after that…
Knowing that, it’s not easy writing about each place to enjoy. So today, I’m focusing on a few personal favorites (obviously, subjective). My wife helped me on this list:
* Death By Pizza – if you’ve been there, welcome to the “addictive club.” Oh my is this pizza good. Detroit style. And get this, it’s take-out only. Good luck getting your foot in their door as the staff is too busy making orders. Give yourself 45 minutes for your order to be ready.
* The Grove – Fine food, fine service, and fine wine. Not cheap. This is a night on the town. It’s the place that makes you feel special. The outdoor patio is like your favorite friends backyard. Their entire staff know everything about the menu. Service on steroids. It’s what you’d expect in a luxury experience.
* The Wine Wave – Ok fine, I’m a self-professed wine snob (wide grin). The entire staff will direct you to the palate or budget you need. And the selection is out of this world. My personal favorite these days are scrumptious Spanish Tempranillo’s, or Italian Nebbiolo’s. Try something new. Or for summer, their selection of Albariño’s is solid.
* Farmhouse – Farm to fork. Need I say more? Quality ingredients, made fresh. Or step up to the bar at the epicenter of Delray and people watch. Quality food, good prices.
* Maison Bouchard – The best jambon – french ham, baguette, butter sandwich with a little cornichon to boot. Desserts? The finest in town. Oui?!
* Whits – Ok, so this is not ice cream. It’s custard. And once you try it, you’re hooked. Just ask my daughter. Or me.
I’ll share my thoughts on more Delray Beach establishments in future issues. Even stories of owners and why they chose Delray Beach to set up shop.
I’ll be back next week with more on our local Delray Beach real estate market. The big market shift is now underway.
This week I wanted to reflect on why my family and I are so happy living here. As I’ve said before, Delray Beach gets better each year we live here. We’re living here during Delray Beach’s 15-minutes of fame.
