When service and food quality is this good – scream from the top of your lungs!
I’m talking about LIONFISH restaurant on Atlantic Avenue (The Ave). It’s one of the best restaurants in Delray.
Here’s my story…
I recall LIONFISH opening in the depths of Covid – in September, 2020. Back then I was counting the number of commercial spaces vacant on The Ave. As a matter of fact, one of these weekly essays got picked up by the Miami Herald. I walked the entire Atlantic Avenue and counted over 34 doors closed due to Covid. It was a ghost town.
Somehow my wife, daughter and I found LIONFISH one Friday afternoon and popped in. It was still Hurricane season and it was empty. My daughter ordered the Rock Shrimp. My wife ordered a Grouper… and I ordered the LIONFISH Ceviche. It was a triple grand slam. I hadn’t seen my family so pleased in a long time. From my daughter’s mouth, “Dad this is one of the best restaurants in Delray that we’ve been to. Then came dessert.
Fast forward to today.
One of The Best Restaurants in Delray Beach
For our 5th visit to LIONFISH last Friday, we did the exact same thing. We arrived at 4:30 in the afternoon. The sun was warm. We asked for the table next to the sidewalk, but on the inside for some A/C. This time my wife’s sister and mother were here from Laguna Beach, CA.
The hostess greeting us at the entrance with a smile. The server introduced us as our Sommelier, too. (I was now in heaven ).
“My daughter will have the Rock Shrimp. My wife will have the grouper. I’ll have the Ceviche – oh, and the Wagyu on hot rocks, please.” I gave our server full authority to pair wines of HIS choice. The dry Alsatian Riesling, and Italian Tempranillo were delish! (Their wine selection is quite nice).
We gave the dinner, service, and experience a “99 on the WineSpector scale.” That’s what I call a “vintage” experience.
But it isn’t just my family raving about LIONFISH. While writing this brief essay I was googling, “best restaurants in Delray, top Delray Beach restaurants… and guess where LIONFISH comes up – on top.
Why do I share this today? Well, being a downtown Delray fan (aka mrdowntowndelray), I felt you had to know. I even sent this to my database of over 3,000. Response was strong. Subscriber Steve wrote his response to weekly eletter, “John, I’ve lived here almost 18 months and for whatever reason, walked by LIONFISH dozens of times. I’ll be there this week to critique why you thinks it’s one of the best restaurants in Delray. Thanks for the tip”
Stop by LIONFISH for Happy Hour. And if you’ve never had lionfish, order the Ceviche. It’s unreal, yummy. And ask for their Sommelier who will steer you right in their newly upgrades wine list.
And let me know your thoughts. If you believe it’s one of the best restaurants in Delray Beach, please comment.
