I’ve never been so happy and proud as I am now living in Delray Beach.
Here are a few reasons why:
* Last week Delray Beach earned the top spot on USA Today’s “10Best” Florida beaches list and was voted the #1 Beach in Florida. Well deserved. It takes a lot of work by a lot of people to make this possible.
* One reason, but not related, is that Delray Beach was the 1st city in the United States to earn a Blue Flag award. And if that isn’t enough, Delray did it again. Last month Delray Beach was awarded the Blue Flag Designation for second consecutive year. To learn more about Blue Flag, click here.
* Delray’s culinary prowess continues to grow. And who doesn’t love to eat great food?! The last time I counted – back in December ’23 – Delray had 74 restaurants. That number has increased since. I’ll walk our streets this month and will have an update for you real soon.
* And as a reminder, Delray Beach was an All-America City Winner in 1993, 2001 and 2017, the first city in Florida to win this award three times.
Today’s eLetter is my moment to gloat a bit about our city. It’s a great time to call Delray Beach home. I’m sure there are folks thinking about. the other side of this convo and ready to fire arrows at me. Go ahead. Today it’s time to appreciate where we live and what we have available to us. And, to acknowledge the great things happening in Delray that we should appreciate.
I’ll end with this thought: the City of Delray Beach’s Sustainability division is strong and growing. They’re active in our community doing a lot of hard work behind the scenes. They’re working hard on projects that’ll help our city maintain, and improve, our natural habitats and places that have become reasons why tourists visit our city.
Our beach is a focal point of this work. Maintaining our beach’s natural environment is paramount. This protects us from inclement weather disturbances. And by installing educational signs along our beach boardwalk, Delray is a leader for showing its dedication to our natural world so the world can see and enjoy.
Delray Beach is a Champion. Of course it’s not perfect… but it’s a role model for how other cities should strive for excellence.
