A Delray Beach Restaurant Experience Worth SHOUTING About

“Can you and Lynda order for us please… we’re overwhelmed.”

We had just sat down at Akira Back in their outside seating area in Pineapple Grove. We had a 7:15pm reservation on a Monday night and the place was packed.

Our server, Jacob, a polished 23-yr-young waiter came over with, “Welcome to Akira Back. Let me show you some of our favorites, my favorites… and explain how to best enjoy your evening with us.” Um, wow.

He knew the menu as if he curated it for years explaining the nuances of over 8 items: origins of the ingredients, how each chef worked with them to blend with others. More than that, he turned his body so it blocked the noice coming from inside – I noticed this instantly.

He and his table staff showed care and attention to every detail. From their quality manners, positive body language, and not being overbearing, the service was something from another world. It might be hard for another Delray Beach restaurant to match this exemplary combination of service and food.

A Delray Beach Restaurant Menu Like No Other

The menu was just 4 pages. The items made us salivate and open up ChatGPT-3 to help us.

* Three exotic mushroom somethings…

* a Kimchi-butter-sauce…

* tuna-pizza with truffle oil thingy…

* oh, halibut w/beurre blanc sauce, and…

* a Wagyu beef imported directly from Japan with more mushrooms as the base.

Drooling yet? Stay with me…

The 2020 Goldeneye Pinot Noir was delish. But the four of us quaffed it fast. So as the Modern-Japanese fusion-style “tapas” continued flowing to our table, we ordered the 2018 Goldeneye Pinot to compare vintages. In our mouths, the ripe, burnt cherries lingered like your favorite song that wouldn’t end.

Something about the Short-rib, fried rice caught our attention – “we’ll have that, too.”

And for yuks sake we had a plate of Edamame sent to our table. You grab each piece, roll it in the Kimchi-butter and let it marinate in your mouth. It was addicting. My wife, who’s Korean, rolled her eyes in joy. I could see her recommending this Delray Beach restaurant to her family.

(Sigh. Our conversation was delightful. After all, this was the second-to-last night my customers would spend living in Delray before heading west to NorCal – I just sold their condo).

Our mouths were still humming with vibrant epicurean flavors. Then the desert menu arrived.

We saw Japanese Whiskeys, dark chocolates, cacao nibs, cinnamon cream cheese, Nutella banana foam and a Spark Plug Martini.

“Bring us one order of the AB Cigar and 4 spoons: Smoked Japanese Whiskey Ice Cream, Chocolate Brownie, Cocoa Nibs.”

Delray Beach Restaurant – Akira Back

Completely satisfied – no, blown away – we left smiling, sharing our favorite flavors… and, with leftover containers of the Kimchi-butter sauce.

Put Akira Back on your “Must-Experience” list.

It’s not a restaurant to have a nice dinner… it’s an experiential moment to take with your forever.
