Downtown Delray – You’re Gonna Love These 47 Things
That’s right! Downtown Delray has something special for everyone. From 47 restaurants with flavors from all across the globe, art galleries, clothing, sweets, coffee bar, wine and beer halls, live entertainment… you’re gonna love it.
Downtown Delray is fast becoming THE place for vacations and FUN in South Florida. And at the heart of the city is world famous Atlantic Avenue. If you haven’t been part of this scene, put Atlantic Avenue – referred to as “The Ave” – Downtown Delray on your must-visit list.
About a dozen years ago, around 2010, Downtown Delray began seeing a surge in entrepreneurial chefs migrating to the city. The Ave had something special. From the tree-lined road, to perfect access from I95 to the beach, and to a growing residential area… it made for a perfect place to set up a business.
Back then, Downtown Delray and The Ave was in transition from once being a has-been town with no draw to it, to finding its brand. Fast forward a decade and the brand is one of the most recognized in South Florida.
Food is the main draw. From Swinton avenue to A1A there are about 33 restaurants. Add in some coffee bars and sweet spots. Pop off The Ave on any of the side streets and you’ll run into more like Olio Bistro, L’Acqua Ristorante Italiano or Brule Bistro. And while talking about food, Delray Beach Market opened as south Florida’s largest food hall in early 2021.
But it’s much more than just restaurants. Downtown Delray is about the people. At the heart of all the fun, is a beach town. A Village By the Sea, as locals call it. Delray Beach won the All-America City award in 2017 for the third time. Only two other cities in the US can claim that.
And in the near future we’ll see the opening of two new mega-projects. The first, about 50% completed as of the end of 2021, is Atlantic Crossing. It’s a multi-functional development that’ll have apartments, condominiums, class-A office space, retail and restaurants. It’s located just one block west of the intracoastal waterway, on The Ave.
Next is Sundy Village. This is at the center of town on the corner of The Ave and Swinton Ave. This project will combine office space, retail and restaurants while maintaining local historic elements and environmental integrity.
And there will more much more to come this decade as Downtown Delray flourishes with investment, jobs and a vibrant local community.
