If you haven’t heard, there’s a buzz in the real estate industry about new affordable home styles. These homes are not your traditional concrete block or wood-framed homes. To the contrary, it’s a new era of affordable home styles: modular, 3D Printed, and container home.

These homes can range from small, to large… and from simple to luxury. But, no matter which kind you consider, these affordable home concepts are beyond that stage. They’re now being made to a large swath of consumers.

More interesting, investors and consumers are stepping up to the plate and ordering them in droves. Let me share…

Affordable Home – Modular

Boxable. founded in 2017, builds small ADU’s (Accessory Dwelling Units). Ok, modular homes. Since inception they’ve built almost 300,000 ft2. of manufacturing space. It’s reported they have over 50,000 reservation-orders.

They’re a sustainable builder made with locally available materials. Boxable homes are energy efficient, ready for solar with a reported Tesla “partnership” (this detail needs further confirmation – but Elon Musk owns and lives in one). And each home comes with high-end plumbing, A/C and electric.

In this new video, you will see a home for $10,000. But on their website, homes are about $50k. D.R. Horton, the largest home builder in the US, is a major investor, and you can invest in the company, too.

Boxable is generating lots of interest due to it’s style, speed-to-build, and on-site deliver. Best of all, once at your property, it can be installed in just a few hours. This is one affordable home you should put on your radar.

Affordable Home – 3D Printed

ICON is a 3D printed home company making huge strides. Also a sustainable builder, they’re building over 100 homes in Austin, Texas with Lennar Homes – one of the largest builders in the US.

In less than 24 hours, 3D printers can print the foundation and walls for a 400-500 ft2. home. Their latest affordable home was selected as the winner of architecture + experimental design and technology this year.

To date they’ve raised over $450 million in capital.

Affordable Home – Containers

And last, are container homes. Let me get to the meat of this convo. Delray Beach has its first dual-container home in the heart of our city. Built in 2020, sold that year, and it’s now under contract for a second time – for almost double the amount it originally sold. If you’re curious to learn more, call or email me for more information.

Most folks are still unaware of the possibilities container homes can bring to the market. Made from steel, they are cut to fit the architectural design, and windows. Depending on the size of container purchased, this is an affordable home worth your time to explore.

And, I know of two other property owners working on permits to build container homes. It’s a fantastic construction option that can be turned into any style you desire, from basic to luxury. And talk about a marketing opportunity to use as a rental property. To see some real life container home ideas, click here.
