My wife say’s to me, “it’s over there off Congress… it looks like a mini Wynwood Walls.”
For context, Congress Ave is just west of I95 in Delray Beach Florida. And if you haven’t been to Wynwood Walls in Miami – it’s a must see for anyone visiting or living in South Florida.
Well, it appears Delray Beach Florida has a mini Wynwood in the making. The name is Andre Design District. It’s on Congress, south of Atlantic Ave and north of the DMV. You can’t see it from Congress now, but one day it may be visible as you drive by.
Word on the street is Design District may expand with a restaurant option, or two. And, whispers of a “beer hall” of some sort. Still too early to confirm, but it’s something new to put on your Delray Beach Florida radar.
Cruise over there. You’ll see some neat artwork (above) on the buildings and cool entrepreneurial businesses. My wife, daughter and I went there to refill our shampoo, laundry detergent, and toothpaste tablets at Zuke’s Refillery. We love their products.
Then we cruised through the industrial driveways and ran into Out Of the Mud Studios. The owner came and greeted us. My daughter’s eyes went straight to he left where a shiny-coat Rottweiler stood with hip and chest up, and smiling. She was familiar as when we left Costa Rica, we brought our two Rottie’s here. The owners said, “Miles is friendly, come pet him.” The three of us almost leapt toward him with excitement. He was stunning. We almost forgot to introduce ourselves to the owner.
Afterward, we walked the 4 internal “street” where each wall was covered in brilliant art colors. It was as if the energy in us grew with each piece. Wow, a little Wynwood Walls here in Delray Beach Florida. “Who woulda thunk it.”
As for our downtown area, although we’re in the deep hurricane, off-season months, Delray Beach Florida is as vibrant as ever. If you weren’t aware, September is Downtown Delray Beach Restaurant Month.
Take advantage of low crowds on “The Ave” and in Pineapple Grove… and enjoy some fabulous meals.
But remember that Delray Beach Florida is home to some of the finest art festivals in the nation. With that, we have the Arts & Crafts Fair where they’ll shut down NE 4th Ave between Atlantic Ave and 2nd Street.
For locals, it’s the perfect time to get involved and support local artists. Although it’ll be busy, it won’t be the hoard of crowds we see in high season.
So, get in your car, in your golf cart, jump on your bike and go see what Delray Beach Florida has is store for you. There’s almost and endless supply of fun, entertainment and just people watching here.
And if I can help show you around town and get a birds-eye view of what Delray Beach Florida means to us today, and in our future, call me. In less than 90 minutes you’ll get the best personal guided tour available… from me.
