There are 7 new things you must know about Delray Beach for 2022…

Growth – Delray Beach is in its hey-day right now. People from all over Florida are visiting, moving, and coming here to see what the buzz is about. Well, Here’s a quick list so you understand what’s going on:

  • The Delray Beach Market is the largest food hall in southern Florida. Built in 2021, it has 24 food eateries, wine and beer pubs and is a great place to bring families for some scrumptious ice cream.
  • The Ray Hotel also opened in 2021. It’s chic glass exterior design makes you take a double-look as you drive by. Located in Pineapple Grove, it opened without a vacancy. Filled with three fabulous restaurants and what will be the first Delray Beach 5-Star Michelin restaurant opening in early 2022.
  • The Opal Grand Resort – on the corner of Atlantic Ave and A1A, this newly remodeled – and new ownership – stunning hotel is a flagship for Delray Beach. Modern exterior invites you in to a designers dream. Make sure to stop in, book a room or enjoy their restaurants directly across from the beach.
  • Atlantic Crossing – it’s one of the largest developments in all of Palm Beach County. It has Downtown living – luxury apartments – Pre-leasing Q4 2021. Parkside condominiums – 2023. Class A office space – Opening Q4 2021. And, specialty shops and restaurants – Opening Q4 2021. It’s right on the intracoastal and Atlantic Ave.
  • Sundy Village – this will begin construction in early 2022 with completion in early 2024. At the heart of the city, this project with change the mood of Delray Beach. It’s integrating existing historic homes built in the early 1900’s, with a mix of office space, retail and restaurants. This is a true historic redevelopment that locals are eager to see succeed.
  • There will be more announcements in mid-2022 that I’ll share…

New Infrastructure – The City of Delray Beach is already tens of millions into improving residential roads and avenues. New side walks, upgraded electricity, and soon a plan to upgrade a decades old water system. As your drive through the city, you will see detour signs everywhere – a sign of putting their money to work.

Novembers – most folks will think the weather is perfect by now. I have news for you – it’s still Hurricane season and can still be real wet. Plan of the heat to be here this time of the year… wearing shorts is still a thing.

More and More Restaurants – This could be the main draw to Delray Beach today. Let’s count: Atlantic Ave has over 34 restaurants, Pineapple Grove now has over 15, and other side streets add another dozen. In total, that’s over 60 restaurants to choose from… with plans for more. With that comes the need for parking. The north and south street provide this with short walking distances. A local secret for you – stay off “The Ave” and walk in.

Festivals Are Back

  • The Delray Beach Festival of The Arts is a favorite. Some publications say it’s one of the beach in the country. A 4-day event that shuts down Atlantic Avenue and thousands of people attend. 2022 will be its return since 2019.
  • Savor The Ave is a glamorous event. One long dining table extends four city blocks. People pay a premium to partake and rate restaurants for best food. It’s a photographers dream evening event.
  • Delray Affair ends the high season with one more art show. Good bye snow birders…

Population in Delray Beach is about 70,000. But in high season is swells to over 150k or more! This is the time when our traffic is nuts, so give yourself ample space between cars and drive slower. There are more retirees here this time of year and folks who enjoy the second homes. Be on the lookout for errant drivers. And forget reservations as restaurants are full. Just show up early or plan to wait 90+ minutes to be seated. Oh, golfers will pay 2-3X more in high season than off season – just sayin’.

Family Friendly – From the art festivals, beaches, spring baseball, and fishing… to boating, surfing, paddling, snorkeling… to our 100-ft Christmas tree and friendly dog parks. It’s endless what you can do in Delray Beach as a family. There are over 42 parks to enjoy, too. Oh, don’t forget our weekly Green Farmers Market on Saturdays in Old School Square.
